I am an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, subspecialised in Urogynaecology in Hosp Al-Sultan Abdullah UiTM. I have been working in O&G for 16 years and completed my urogynaecology training in 2017. I am actively involved in teaching, research and clinical services. Gandhi and Lincoln : their outlook on the world, they shaped By Aparna Joshi As students of history, we often place both Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln on a pedestal, beyond scrutiny and examination. Through this essay, I aim to study both Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Gandhi as men of their times, their ideologies and legacies. In order to effectively study their ideologies, we must focus on the following criteria- Education, upbringing and Political Career Their views on religion Their views on Race Their views on social reform Their views on Gender Lastly, I shall be examining their legacies in light of maintenance of peace, prevention of hate crimes and the rise to future movements. Recently, the Legacies of both Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln have been questioned in the light of the ‘Black lives matter movement’ as hypocritical leaders who did not practice what they preached for a majority of their lives and only did so for short periods of their lives to garner social, political support. While on the other hand, they are still addressed with titles such as the Great Emancipator and Mahatma, resonating with the fact that their images in the minds of people remain unchanged despite shifting political
