Ben Gernon
Ben is an award-winning conductor and broadcaster who works with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras. Performing at iconic venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, The Proms and Glyndebourne, he was the youngest conductor to be appointed by the BBC, becoming the BBC Philharmonic’s Principal Guest Conductor from 2017-2020.
On television Ben recently presented and conducted the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for Inside Classical, a documentary on BBC Four. He co-presented and conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra for BBC Two’s Holst: The Planets with Professor Brian Cox. Ben has conducted at the BBC Proms, is a regular judge on BBC Young Musician of the Year, and for CBeebies he conducted the BBC Philharmonic and taught a youngster how to conduct on YolanDa’s Band Jam. On Channel 4 he conducted the LSO on Addicts’ Symphony.
He is co-presenter of the BBC Sounds podcast Monsters of Music with Tom Allen, and has written and presented a wide range of documentaries and features for BBC Radio 3. These include The Silent Musician, a three-part series revealing the secrets of conducting and a docudrama starring Alex Jennings, What Walls Hold, which eavesdropped into Tavistock House, the home of Victorian celebrities .

‘Held’ DVD Review
A lot of movies begin with an overhead show of a car driving down a long deserted road. Ominous, sure, but something we’ve seen many many times before. That is, though, perhaps where the “same old” ends with Held.
Held, directed by Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing (The Gallows), and penned by Jill Awbrey, is a mystery horror film about a couple who are going through strains in their marriage and head off for an anniversary getaway for their ninth year, when things become even more difficult for the two of them after they are held hostage in the hi-tech and modern vacation house and given commends by an unseen voice over the intercom system. The commands begin tame and somewhat calm, but grow and turn more extreme and disturbing.
