Goad, both of which touched on the career of Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack, it was clear there was still a lot more to say about this fascinating figure. Our projects were never able to concentrate on Hirschfeld-Mack to the same extent as a biography. This is why this first biography of Hirschfeld-Mack in English is so important. It dedicates itself to telling the entire story of his extraordinary career, which is indeed much more than a Bauhaus story.

Even those familiar with Hirschfeld-Mack's achievements at the Bauhaus know little about his life beyond his time at the twentieth century's most famous art and design school. There are two reasons for this relative obscurity. First, Hirschfeld-Mack increasingly focused on art education soon after his Bauhaus years (which ended in ).Art education simply does not attract as much critical attention as individual artistic practices, then and now.
